Ok, a bit about me. I’m from England so I have an English accent. It might sound confusing, create curiosity, and possibly be misunderstood - but that also brings questions and smiles. No doubt we will therefore start with a smile! That’s a great beginning!
I studied and graduated in Social Work in England a 'long time ago' in the 1990’s. I was a Social Worker in the city hospital. I have experience in ER, emergency services, grief and loss, crisis/in-patient psychiatric, behavioural health, adult and geriatric, medical/surgical challenges, coping with terminal illness, children and family, adult mental health day care, adolescent leaving care and adult/adolescent residential community group homes.
I have lived in Hawaii since 2004. I studied my Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling here. I LOVE it! I am passionate about my profession, the people I work with and the people I work for - YOU!
I currently work full time with youth in foster care, their families and caregivers. I love the adolescent age group with all its curiosity, diversity, complaining, arguing, and sense of privilege!! Haven’t we all been teenagers? Hopefully I am one of the kinds of people they want, that I wanted, when I was a teenager.
I use everyday language and a relaxed approach to the therapeutic sessions. I am always professional, ethical and work with my duty to do no harm. I want you to never second guess what I say, and never feel ‘less than’ or judged, or confused about any time we spend together.
I have a team approach, side by side, and equality in the dialogue. I just love people and their stories, their histories and their network of complications and ever evolving jigsaws of life. Questions are easy, answers are not, and that's why you're here still reading! Doing it alone hasn't worked for you. There's a missing part and it could be US! To be part of your healing process is why I am here!
With me you can just be yourself. Isn’t that the point of therapy? You can’t shock me with anything. I’m older and wiser and have experienced a lot in my social work and therapy profession over the years. I always expect the unexpected. I am a little bit radical in my approach. I am NOT the “Hmm, tell me how you feel” therapist. I will laugh with you and possibly cry with you because I’m all about emotions being real. Emotions make us the humans we are. I’m human too. Oh, and yes, don’t expect an all ‘velvet and lace’ approach here. Once our relationship is established I’m very likely to take you out of your comfort zone and push the therapeutic boundaries. If you want to stay stuck in your comfort zone, where you are now, then tell me how that's working for you! It's not, is it? That's why you're here, still reading. I will always try to catch you if you fall. But you have to reach out for me to try to catch you!!
OK, I’m not going to blind you with science. I’m not going to tell you about all the therapeutic interventions I have up my sleeve, like some magic box of tricks and how they are best suited to you. I’m not going to talk about a diagnosis and label you like nothing else about you matters. I am simply going to tell you that first we need to connect and talk. Let’s discuss the intention you have, and the approach I have, and we can adapt them both to suit YOU, and take it from there.
Sound OK so far? Ready to take the first step? Let’s put our voices together and mix my English accent with yours. Together we can get you back to where you want to be! It’s called teamwork! I’m all in… because that’s what I do!! And because YOU are worth it!
~ "If it feels like more than just a BLUE DAY – then it is!! You have come to the right place!
